Mapping Shanghai

'Mapping Shanghai' was a collaboration project between RMIT Master of Arts (Art in Public Space), ECNU (East China Normal University) and RMIT Diploma of Photoimaging students in September 2013. The work was a continuation of the program that took place in Melbourne earlier the same year (see 'Mapping Melbourne' in my Projects). This time I was working with Dr Maggie McCormick [course coordinator of Major Research Project Presentation, Master of Arts (Art in Public Space) RMIT University] who created masks by layering Shanghai's underground maps. The work explored questions about the 'urban identity' and how it imprints on people's faces. As the pieces were mirrored masks, I executed their documentation in the actual subway area where the glass divider piece was used to create the doubling effect. The images were exhibited in Shanghai along with the masks created by Dr McCormick.
